PPG Member Heather to run 5K race to raise funds for PPG services

On the 25th of November 2018, I will be running a 5K race (or 3 miles!) to raise vital funds for Nuneaton’s Whitestone Surgery Patient Participation Group (PPG). This may seem like nothing to the more seasoned runners among you, but to me, it is a real challenge!

Whitestone Surgery Patient Participation Group (PPG) provides many important services to the local community, including:

  • Job Club
  • Groundbreakers Allotment Club
  • Caring Café
  • Silver Surfers
  • Computer Club
  • Dementia Group

The Whitestone PPG has already been recognised for its work across Nuneaton. In 2016, we were awarded the Corkill Award by the National Association of Patient Participation, in recognition of our work within the local community. All of the services we offer are completely free of charge, but take money to run. The PPG receives no external funding – it is run on the good-will and generosity of our volunteers.

We have some exciting growth plans in place for 2019, but funding is so important to help us meet these.

The race will help raise money and awareness for the Group, and enable us to pay for some vitally needed equipment, including:

  • Raised beds – wheelchair accessible height for the allotment so that those with limited mobility can take part
  • Orientation material for Dementia patients
  • Additional equipment for our Computer Club

We are committed to increasing our services in order to combat loneliness, improve the quality of relationships, build more engaged communities, encourage physical mobility and help develop new skills.
